The SWAN Forum is Born

Initiated to increase cross-industry collaboration, SWAN is founded by Derceto, Echologics, i2O Water, TaKaDu, Telvent, and Schneider Electric and holds its inaugural, Annual Conference in Paris.

2012

SWAN Creates 5-Layer Model

SWAN introduces its 5-Layer Smart Water Architecture, which becomes an industry standard and publishes, “The Value of Online Network Monitoring.” The 2nd Annual Conference is held in Utrecht, Netherlands.

SWAN Launches Interactive Tool 

The SWAN Architecture Work Group builds the SWAN SMART SCORE and SWAN Interactive Architecture Tool enabling users to explore their smart water journey. The 3rd Annual Conference is held in London.

SWAN Highlights the Customer

SWAN releases animated clip, “The Customer Benefits of Smart Water Networks” (in English and Spanish), as well as a Global Utility Survey. The results are shared at 4th Annual Conference in Madrid.

Advancing Strategic Frameworks

The SWAN Interoperability Work Group shares a technical White Paper on “Communication in Smart Water Networks” and SWAN releases a benchmarking report comparing global water regulators. The 5th Annual Conference is held in London.

A New Focus on Smart Wastewater 

“Smart Wastewater” becomes embedded in SWAN’s mission with a new report, “Data-Driven Solutions to U.S. Wastewater Challenges” and launch of the “Wastewater Network Management” Tool. The 6th Annual Conference is held in London.

SWAN Americas Takes Off

SWAN premiers its Americas Alliance with Workshops in San Diego and Chicago. SWAN hosts a Workshop at the WaterIDEAS Conference in Bologna and announces the SWAN Research Portal – a central location for smart water resources. The 7th Annual Conference is held in London.

Global Smart Water Acceleration

SWAN issues a new report, “Exploring the Social Layer of the Smart Water Journey.” The SWAN APAC Alliance kicks off with a Smart Water Forum at Singapore Intl. Water Week. SWAN holds 3rd Americas Workshop in Montreal, 2nd Workshop in Bologna, and 1st WWEM Workshop in Telford (UK). The 8th Annual Conference is held in Barcelona.

2019

A Year of Exciting Firsts

SWAN launches the Rising Smart Water Professionals Group (RiSWP) dedicated to young professionals and Digital Twin H2O Work Group. The European Utility Alliance (EUA) holds its 1st Workshop in Amsterdam, the APAC Alliance holds its 1st Workshop in Noosa Heads (AU), and SWAN participates in a joint-event with Water UK in London.

Making a Splash in the US

For the first time, the SWAN 9th Annual Conference is held in Miami together with the 1st SWAN Digital Twin Workshop and 1st RiSWP Hackathon, followed by the release of the Smart Water 2019 eBook published in partnership with Water Online.

A New Stage of Growth

SWAN introduces the new, Digital Twin Architecture, leads a Digital Water Day at India Water Innovation Week to kick off the SWAN India Alliance, and hosts its 1st Community of Practice focused on Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) to later publish a DaaS White Paper. RiSWP launches a Mentorship Series, and SWAN and AWWA partner on the 1st Virtual Int’l Smart Water Symposium.

Virtual Connections, Real Insights

Following a challenging year with the global pandemic, SWAN holds its 10th Annual Conference virtually, featuring the 1st RiSWP Workshop, 3rd SWAN Digital Twin Workshop, and a Cybersecurity IdeaLAB in partnership with +ADD Strategy.

SWAN to unveil new “Member Ecosystem Map,” revamp the 5-Layer Model, launch “Smart Metering” Community of Practice, and hold Overcoming Pollution Workshop in Feb. with WIPAC. The first ever Smart Water Week and 4th Digital Twin Workshop to be held in May 2021.
